The campaign launched today by the renowned media personality Amr Adeeb to buy Egyptian instead of imported products gives you the ideal chance to save the national economy. This first step on the road gets the campaign off to off to a flying start with a 20 per cent discount being widely offered on Egyptian goods from a soft drink to a stylish new winter outfit, as well as offers from hotels and airlines and other service providers. Its goal is to put the slogan ‘Buy Egyptian' into practice and for people to co-operate with the Government in limiting imports and manufacturers to realise the need to provide Egyptian consumers with high quality appropriately priced goods in proper prices to encourage. Saeed Abdullah, Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade under-secretary, has stressed that buying local products will boost the reopening of closed plants and employment opportunities. He pointed out, while imports cannot be restricted because Egypt has certain commitments as a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and has commitments, encouraging the purchase of local products is not against WTO rules. Moharam Helal, the head of the of 10th Ramadan Investment Association, told Al-Akhbar newspaper that each Egyptian pound paid by consumes to buy the local products contributes to creating job opportunities for the youth and combatting the deficit in the state budget. He added that the United States of America has raised a similar slogan to buy American products following the dumping of Chinese products on the US market. The Giza Chamber of Commerce has made a patriotic call in this context, stressing that prioritising local products is an appropriate outcome of the demands of the January 25 revolution, which included justice and the creation of job opportunities.
