CAIRO: Prominent Egyptian media figure Amr Adeeb called for a million-man and initiative entitled “Buy Egyptian,” calling for Egyptians in and outside Egypt to buy only Egyptian products next Friday 16. He pointed out Egyptian exports rose during the last nine months more than it did in 2010. Adeeb made these statements on his daily talk show “Cairo Today.” Adeeb added Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri talked about austerity and the big deficit in the general budget. Consequently, Adeeb called to support Egypt's economy by buying only Egyptian products. He added the Israeli goods invaded through Sinai and is about to reach Suez and Ismailia, pointing out Israeli goods is economically poisoned. Adeeb called for members of Cairo Today's Facebook page to create a slogan for the campaign and the members responded highly and created many slogans. Moreover, many companies' owners and brands made a big discount on prices on Friday including Aga for Frozen Vegetables, Zahran Mall, Arab Cola, Faragallah, CompuMall and Oriental Weavers. Head of Egypt International Furniture Company, Ahmed Saleh, reduced their prices by 15 percent. Owner of Porto Sokhna, Mansour Amer, provided an offer for those who buy a flat to take the furniture for free, and his restaurants made a discount of 10 percent off. He suggested the campaign should last for one month. Moreover, owner of Regina Macaroni Company, Karim Abu Ghali, made a discount of 5 percent and Kahal Carpets Company made a discount of 15 percent. Businessman Nehad Khattab contributed in the campaign by printing 500,000 brochures with the slogan to promote the campaign. Many writers and media figures responded to the campaign by covering the campaign in their newspapers and channels. Amr Adeeb said Youm7 will surprise people by supporting the campaign in the printed edition and the website. Prominent Egyptian writer Ahmed Ragab decided his column in Al-Akhbar newspaper on Friday will be about the campaign. Editor-in-chief of Al-Masry Al-Youm Magdy al-Gallad said he admires Cairo Today's efforts in supporting Egypt's economy, assuring of his involvement in the campaign by distributing brochures with the journal and shedding light on it in his talk show on CBC. Moreover, prominent media figure Mofida Shiha expressed her admiration of the campaign, calling for all housewives to support the campaign by buying anything Egyptian.
