CAIRO - Egypt will not pull out its Ambassador in Syria and will stick to the item concerning this in the decision issued by the Arab League Ministerial Council Summit held in Cairo on Saturday, diplomatic sources said Monday. The Arab League (AL) has suspended the participation of Syria's delegation in another summit, currently being held in Morocco, until tomorrow, to give President Bashar al-Assad a chance to implement the Arab deal to end violence against protesters. The AL decision is optional, not binding, on Arab countries. It calls on its members to pull out their ambassadors from Damascus in protest at the ongoing violence, as a result of which more than 5,000 people have been killed, according to human rights groups. If Bashar's regime doesn't respond to the Arab plan, the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) will be recognised. According to diplomatic sources, Egypt has been advising Syria to contain the crisis and do something to end the demonstrations inside Syria, ever since the protests started. Egypt has also declared its readiness to help Syria overcome the crisis. Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said that the suspension of Syria from the AL could be lifted today or tomorrow, if it agrees to the Arab plan. “The Algerian Ambassador in Syria and the Syrian Ambassador in Algeria are both welcome to carry on working in a fraternal, positive spirit,” Medelci told a press briefing held jointly with his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Kamal Amr at the end of their talks on Sunday. Syrian activists and protesters have, over the past few weeks, called on the international community to intervene to end the bloodshed meted out by Bashar's Government.
