INDONESIA – Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) has always been representative of human conscience in the international policy, Egypt's Foreign Minister Nabil el-Arabi, and the recently elected chief of the Arab League, told the official Middle East News Agency on Tuesday. "All Non-Alignment member countries should coordinate their policies because their moral power is an asset considering that their military arsenal is not huge," added el-Arabi, who heads the Egyptian delegation at the 16th ministerial meeting of the movement in Jakarta, which starts on Wednesday. The NAM is a group of states considering themselves not aligned formally with or against any major power bloc. As of 2011, the movement had 118 members and 20 observer countries. The Egyptian diplomat expressed hope that member countries would adopt coordinated stands given the many challenges they face. "The ministerial meeting on Wednesday will deal with a series of key issues particularly the Palestinian cause, in addition to topics related to the reform of the UN Security Council," he added. El-Arabi added that the NAM doesn't have an executive body because the founders of the movement – such as Gamal Abdel-Nasser – worked under the UN umbrella. He said that there problems facing the world and the NAM as disarmament would be on the meeting's agenda.
