CAIRO - Three hundred thousand Egyptians have returned home from Libya, a senior official at Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Wednesday. "The Ministry has done its best to get 300,000 Egyptian workers back from Libya after deadly protests and demonstrations with the aim of toppling Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi," Mohamed Abdel-Hakam, Assistant to the Egyptian Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, was quoted by the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying. Abdel-Hakam added that Egypt wants to evacuate any Egyptian who wishes to come home, as well as safeguarding Egyptians who prefer to stay there. He urged citizens not to believe rumours about Egyptians abroad, advising them to ring these ex-pats, in order to find out what's really happening. There have been rumours about Egyptians being tortured in Libya.
