CAIRO - As part of a project to establish and integrate national databases programme, the Ministry of State for Administrative Development (MSAD) adopted the Family National Database project which aims mainly at establishing a family database and linking it to different national databases using the citizen National ID, a news release said. Such linking will provide accurate and up-to-date information about Egyptian families' profile, helping in conducting studies to assess their patterns of income and expenditure and consequently assisting the Government in better targeting unprivileged citizens and providing each family with the right package conforming to its soci-economic profile, it said. It is worth mentioning that 63 million records representing 12 million families are completed. As the smart cards technology is one of the worldwide de facto service delivery mechanisms, it was adopted by the Government as a tool to provide the families with various social services such as subsidised commodities, social security pensions, and health insurance.
