CAIRO - A cold storm from Europe that strayed from its course arrived in Egypt yesterday, bringing rain to the capital area and causing a high likelihood of floods in Sinai and some southern governorates. Snow has also fallen on some parts of Cairo during the afternoon, witnesses said. In the evening the rain has weakened to some extent. The cold storm arrived in Egypt from Europe, weather service officials said, adding that showers would focus mostly on the north, centre and south of the country. The rains began in Cairo at noon yesterday and strengthened during the night. The showers have been quite forceful, and in desert regions more than 10 millimetres of rainfall could cause a powerful flood, the officials warned. The storm brought colder weather and stronger winds, they said, adding that temperatures will reach a high of 17 degrees Celsius in Cairo today and 11 degrees in Alexandria.
