CAIRO, April 28, 2018 (MENA) - Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit will host on Monday a meeting of the international quartet group on Libya at the AL headquarters. The meeting will be attended by European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama and former President of the Republic of Burundi and the African Union High Representative for Mali and the Sahel Pierre Buyoya. The meeting comes within the framework of the Arab League, European Union, African Union and UN commitment to continue coordinating with a view to back the political process in Libya and guarantee the constitutional and electoral rights of the Libyan people set out in Skhirat agreement, the AL chief's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said. The group is expected to discuss the latest security and political developments in Libya, Afifi added. The participants will review the progress made within the framework of the UN action plan to break the political stalemate in Libya, Afifi noted. They will also outline a number of joint moves aiming to encourage Libyan parties to shoulder their responsibilities and head towards achieving the political transition process in the country, he further noted.
