CAIRO, March 17, 2018 - The Egyptian Ministry of Environment is holding raising awareness campains nationwide to educate citizens about the Earth Hour, the biggest global movement for the environment. It aims at encouraging people to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. This year, the Earth Hour will be held on Saturday, March 24. The Ministry highlighed the importance of joining this day in which all people around the world would unite to form a global public opinion in climate concerns and raise awareness about rationalising the power consumption. Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmi said in the statement that Egypt's participation in the Earth Hour movement would coincide with hosting the Biological Diversity Conference due to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh on 10 - 22 November this year. He highlighted the importance of drawing the world attention about the dangers of climate change which has a negative effects on the biological diversity.
