Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in Cairo to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in establishing a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and progress on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. According to a statement from the prime minister's office, the meeting aimed to build on the results of talks held between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in May. Madbouly expressed Egypt's appreciation for its cooperation with Russia in many fields and welcomed the hosting of the second ministerial conference of the "Russia-Africa" Partnership Forum in November 2025, which he said would enhance trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Russia, and African countries. The officials also discussed joint cooperation in the energy, tourism, transport, water desalination, agriculture, food security, and mining sectors. The Russian deputy prime minister affirmed Russia's interest in the industrial zone project in the SCZONE, which he had visited on Monday with a delegation of Russian business leaders. He also expressed his desire to cooperate with the Egyptian side in areas such as trade, industry, agriculture, food processing, tourism, energy, and logistics. Separately, Overchuk also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Abdelatty praised the strong ties between the two countries and the regular convening of joint political, technical, and economic committees, including the recent 15th session of the joint committee for trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation, which resulted in the signing of the usufruct contract for the land of the Russian industrial zone. The minister affirmed Egypt's keenness to activate joint projects, led by the Dabaa plant and the industrial zone, and to provide all necessary facilities for their success. The two officials also discussed cooperation in transport, tourism, and civil aviation, with the Egyptian minister praising the significant increase in Russian tourism to Egypt.
