Egypt's Al-Sisi, Spain's Sánchez discuss Gaza, ties in phone call
Published in Daily News Egypt on 27 - 05 - 2025

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a telephone call from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday, during which they discussed the situation in Gaza, other regional issues, and bilateral relations.
The Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson stated that the two leaders affirmed their keenness to build on the momentum in bilateral relations, which was highlighted by Sisi's visit to Madrid in February 2025. They aim to explore broader prospects for enhancing cooperation in various fields, particularly economic, trade, and investment, in line with the interests of both nations.
Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy added that the call addressed the situation in the Palestinian territories. Both sides reiterated their categorical rejection of the continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and attempts to displace Palestinians from their land. They stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and paving the way for the implementation of a two-state solution through expanded recognition of a Palestinian state. They also called for mobilising support for the Arab-Islamic plan to reconstruct the Gaza Strip without displacing its inhabitants.
The spokesperson further explained that the call covered the situations in Syria, Lebanon, and Libya. The leaders emphasised the need to preserve the unity, territorial integrity, and security of these nations. They also affirmed the continuation of consultation and coordination between Egypt and Spain on various regional files, given the important roles both countries play in restoring regional stability.
