Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 04 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held official talks in Doha on Monday with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during the second stop of his ongoing Gulf tour. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to advancing bilateral ties and coordinating efforts on pressing regional challenges.
The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation across various fields, particularly economic and investment partnerships. Both leaders emphasized the importance of directing Qatari investments in Egypt—currently amounting to $7.5bn—towards supporting sustainable development. They also agreed to strengthen trade exchange to serve the mutual interests of their peoples.
On the Palestinian front, the two sides reiterated their full support for reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip and firmly rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians from their homeland. They also stressed the importance of Palestinian reconciliation and uniting Palestinian factions to fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people for statehood, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
The leaders exchanged views on joint efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. Discussions also covered developments in Syria, Lebanon, and Sudan, with both sides emphasizing the need to safeguard the unity, sovereignty, and stability of these countries.
At the international level, Egypt and Qatar expressed their support for ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at de-escalating regional tensions. They also praised the diplomatic efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in facilitating dialogue. Both parties underscored the importance of supporting regional and international mediation efforts to end the violence in Gaza.
Additionally, Qatar affirmed its support for Egypt's candidate, Khaled El-Anany, in his bid for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, citing his distinguished academic and cultural contributions.
The meeting concluded with a mutual affirmation of satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations and a joint commitment to building on recent achievements. Both leaders expressed a shared vision for promoting security, stability, and prosperity across the region.
