Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks in Doha on April 13–14, affirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation. In a joint communique, both sides agreed to enhance economic cooperation, with a $7.5 billion Qatari direct investment package planned for the coming phase. The move reflects strong mutual trust and aims to support sustainable economic development for both nations. Palestinian cause The two leaders reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, backing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also expressed full support for Palestinian reconciliation efforts and the reconstruction of Gaza. They renewed their full support for Gaza's reconstruction plan, and expressed hope for an international conference to be hosted by Egypt in Cairo in cooperation with regional and international partners, to coordinate humanitarian and development efforts that would improve living conditions for Palestinians in the Strip. The leaders voiced grave concern over the ongoing escalation in Gaza, calling for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and the urgent delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians. Condemnation of undermining mediation efforts Both leaders condemned attempts to undermine mediation efforts and reaffirmed their joint role, along with the United States, in pushing for a resolution. Sudan crisis On Sudan, the communique urged an end to the armed conflict and a return to inclusive national dialogue, affirming support for regional and international peace initiatives. US-Iran talks Egypt and Qatar also welcomed continued US–Iran indirect talks, supporting peaceful efforts to reduce regional tensions. The leaders praised Oman's diplomatic role in this context. Nomination of UNESCO Director-General Qatar expressed support for Egypt's nomination of Dr Khaled El-Anany for the role of Director-General of UNESCO, recognising his academic and cultural credentials. The two countries concluded by expressing satisfaction with recent progress in bilateral relations and agreed to continue building a partnership grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for stability and prosperity.
