Egypt's Sisi, Cyprus' Christodoulides discuss Gaza reconstruction at EGYPS '25
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 17 - 02 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides discussed on Monday Egypt's ongoing efforts to propose a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza without the displacement of Palestinians. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPS 2025) taking place in Cairo on 17-19 February.
Both leaders reaffirmed that the establishment of a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital remains the only viable path to lasting peace in the region.
Key Regional Discussions
The discussions covered developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting Egypt's role in implementing Gaza's ceasefire agreement in three phases to support regional stability. President Sisi and Christodoulides also reviewed Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts, including hostage and detainee exchanges and humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.
Beyond Palestine, the talks addressed the situations in Syria, Lebanon, and Libya, with both presidents emphasising the importance of stability, unity, and territorial integrity in these nations to bolster regional and international security.
Bilateral and Energy Cooperation
President Sisi also outlined ways to strengthen Egypt-Cyprus ties, both bilaterally and within the trilateral framework with Greece. The leaders praised the growing momentum in their partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination.
The meeting also explored expanding energy cooperation, particularly in natural gas production, liquefaction, and transport, to serve the interests of Egypt, Cyprus, and Europe.
