Egypt's President opens 10th Trilateral Cooperation Summit with Cyprus, Greece
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 08 - 01 - 2025

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated the 10th Trilateral Cooperation Summit between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece on Wednesday, highlighting the partnership as a vital platform for regional stability and collaboration.
In his opening remarks, President Sisi stressed that the trilateral mechanism is more than a forum for discussing regional issues; it represents a robust partnership aimed at bolstering stability in the region. This stability, he noted, is fundamentally tied to the three nations' collective efforts in addressing economic, political, and social challenges. He also emphasised the importance of collaboration, especially given the current Middle Eastern crises.
President Sisi expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Cyprus and Greece regarding the Palestinian cause, commending their positions advocating for the Palestinian people's right to independence and the establishment of a sovereign state in line with international resolutions.
The president called for intensified efforts to de-escalate tensions and address regional crises, including the war in Gaza, the situation in Lebanon, and achieving stability in Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Sudan. He warned of the catastrophic consequences of escalating conflicts into a full-scale regional war, with devastating political, economic, and security implications, alongside unprecedented waves of displacement and irregular migration.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the trilateral cooperation, President Sisi described it as a cornerstone for not only fostering economic growth but also advancing regional economic integration. He welcomed the convening of the business forum between the three countries, held alongside the summit, as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing expertise, and exploring investment opportunities that benefit their citizens.
In the energy sector, President Sisi praised the ongoing cooperation between the three nations, describing it as a pivotal element of their shared strategy. He hailed the Egypt-Greece electricity interconnection project as a game-changer for regional energy integration, enabling the exchange of clean energy and contributing significantly to green economic transformation goals.
He also highlighted the collaboration with Cyprus in natural gas, emphasising the potential of transporting Cypriot gas to Egyptian liquefaction plants for re-export to European markets. This, he noted, underscores the region's capabilities in ensuring energy security for Europe.
President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to deepening ties with Cyprus and Greece, with a shared vision of stability, economic growth, and regional integration.
