Al-Sisi, Meloni discuss strengthening Egypt–Italy relations, supporting Gaza ceasefire efforts

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, in the presence of Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty and General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad, according to a presidential statement.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the talks focused on advancing bilateral relations, with President Al-Sisi commending the positive momentum in Egyptian–Italian ties and reaffirming Cairo's commitment to deepening cooperation across political, economic, energy, agricultural, construction, and tourism sectors.
The two leaders discussed ways to enhance trade exchange and promote direct engagement between business communities in both countries. Prime Minister Meloni welcomed the expanding partnership, stressing the importance of building on recent progress to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
On regional developments, Meloni expressed her appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in mediating the Gaza ceasefire, affirming Italy's full support for efforts aimed at achieving regional stability and alleviating the humanitarian crisis.

President Al-Sisi noted that the ceasefire represents the culmination of two years of Egyptian mediation—conducted in coordination with Qatar and the United States—to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. He emphasised that the agreement would help end hostilities, increase humanitarian aid, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and pave the way for reconstruction and a political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy.
El-Shennawy added that the meeting also addressed Italy's continued support for Egypt within the European Union, with both sides expressing optimism for the success of the upcoming Egypt–EU Summit scheduled to take place in Brussels on October 22.
