Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday attended a high-level meeting with key leaders from Europe and the Middle East on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace. The gathering included King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. The gathering focused on coordinating the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, including reconstruction plans and the delivery of humanitarian aid, Egyptian presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy said. Sisi highlighted the importance of the Cairo Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference scheduled for November 2025, aiming to build on the momentum generated by the Sharm El-Sheikh summit. He called on European nations to encourage all parties to uphold the ceasefire and noted that Egypt and Jordan are training Palestinian police forces, urging further European support to expand these efforts. The participating countries also emphasised the need to provide sufficient humanitarian assistance to Gaza, remove rubble, and set up a coordination mechanism to agree on concrete steps to achieve the summit's objectives, the spokesman added.
