Egypt begins rehabilitating Kitchener drainage: Local Development Ministry

Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna has directed quick implementation of the targeted works and projects within the project to improve water quality in the Kitchener Drain, the solid waste component.
The Ministry of Local Development signed a contract to design and construct two intermediate stations in Gharbiya and Dakahlia governorates with Tripartite Engineering & Construction to improve water quality in the Kitchener Drain, a solid waste component, which is implemented by the Ministry of Local Development. The project is financed by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth €79m and a grant from the European Union worth €8m.
Minister of Local Development noted that the contract aims to design and establish two intermediate stations in Qatour in Gharbia and Nabarouh in Dakahlia, with a capacity of 300 tonnes/day at a cost of €3,85m. The governorates have begun the work of removing accumulations and waste. This waste was safely disposed of.
Amna explained that the second contract for the project will be signed during this month to establish four factories to recycle and treat waste in the governorates of Dakahlia and Kafr El-Sheikh.
The project aims to support the hygiene system in the three governorates located within the scope of the Kitchener Drian through the establishment of factories and intermediate stations, and the rehabilitation and closure of random dumps. Besides, the rehabilitation of garages, and the collection and transportation of solid waste in order to achieve the general goal of the project, which is improving public health and environmental situation, which helps stabilise the economic and social situation of the population of the targeted governorates.
