Egypt's Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, participated in the dialogue session at the Climate Technology Forum, as part of her participation in the World Government Summit 2023 in the Emirate of Dubai, UAE. During the session, Fouad talked about opportunities to build on the outcomes of the COP27, ways to bridge the gaps between commitments and aspirations to reach real implementation, and highlighted the urgent issues that require inclusion on the agenda at the upcoming COP28. She also addressed how climate diplomacy at COP28 can advance implementation, and how to take advantage of the funds available from the various development banks and development financing institutions to conclude the necessary deals to stimulate economic development and reduce emissions to help the global community raise ambition to support a just and equitable transition to energy. The Egyptian Minister of the Environment referred to the important role of providing the necessary technologies and financing and capacity building, to achieve the implementation commitments launched by the COP27, and to present real implementation models to replicate and build on them. Fouad also highlighted the need to build in the agenda of the COP28 on the balance achieved in the COP27, by advancing the issue of loss and damage and the mitigation program, and the Global Assessment and Global Goal for Adaptation, building on the Sharm El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda. The minister drew attention to the recommendations issued by the COP27 and working on them until the flag is handed over to the UAE in COP28, including the importance of enhancing the clean energy mix at all levels as part of diversifying the energy mix and systems, in line with national conditions to achieve a just energy transition.
