EMRA signs three MoUs with foreign organisations, companies
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 07 - 2022

The Egypt Mining Forum (EMF), under the auspices of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, witnessed the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements between the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) and multiple international institutions.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Monday, these agreements aim to develop professionals, support the infrastructure of mining sites, and create mutual cooperation with major international companies in the oil and gas sector to identify opportunities to explore important minerals, as well as meet the demand for implementing energy transformation projects and reducing carbon emissions.
MoU with the American Chamber of Commerce
The event, which was attended by Alaa Khashab — Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources — included an MoU between the Mineral Resources Authority and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) for cooperation in the field of training and capacity building in the field of mining.
Under the MoU, signed by Khaled Al-Sheshtawy — Chairperson of the Commission — with Mohammed Zaher, who was representing AmCham, the chamber will support the implementation of the ministry's vision to develop and modernise the mining sector by providing a training programme from the chamber's Training and Development Centre.
The programme will aim to develop expertise on visions, work strategies, and the economic aspects of investments, companies, and international institutions in the field of mining, so that participants conclude the best ways to expand partnership with such institutions.
The programme will also include a technical aspect by presenting nine technical lectures based on lectures from the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM), which is known for being a global leader in mining.
MoU for cooperation with Italian Eni
The conference also witnessed the signing of an MoU between EMRA and AIOC Production — a subsidiary of the Italian company Eni.
The MoU aims to establish cooperation between the two parties in identifying and discovering potential opportunities for minerals used in the energy transition process and clean energy projects in cooperation areas such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite.
The agreement was signed by Chairperson of EMRA and Paolo Bini and Director-General of Exploration at AIOC in the presence of the new president of the company in Egypt.
Under the MoU, information and geological data will be exchanged. Additionally, technical services will be provided.
MoU with MSALAB
EMRA also signed an MoU with MSALAB to develop the skills and knowledge of the authority's employees on comprehensive testing work for examining gold and basic minerals for soil, rock, and drilling samples in Marsa Alam.
The MoU was signed by the Chairperson of the Mineral Resources Authority with CEO of MSALAB Stuart Thompson.
MSALAB is a geochemical laboratory business that operates a network of commercial and mine site laboratories worldwide.
The company provides its services to the mining industry with the adoption of advanced gold and base metal analysis techniques and laboratory management systems.
