Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob received on Monday Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry at the first stop of the latter's current Asian tour.
Shoukry handed Yaakob a message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on boosting cooperation between the two countries at various levels. The message also reviewed the ongoing efforts to prepare for the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), which Egypt will host this November.
The meeting dealt with bilateral relations between Egypt and Malaysia and the work being done to develop them in various political, economic, and cultural fields, said Ahmed Hafez — the official Spokesperson of the ministry.
Shoukry pointed out that the two countries are linked by historical ties and that positive steps have been taken in recent times to develop them in accordance with the aspirations of the two friendly peoples and the size of the common interests between the two countries.
The meeting also dealt with cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, as the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Malaysia increased in 2021 to nearly $1bn, an increase of more than 80% compared to 2020.
Also on Monday, Shoukry met with Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Mohamed Azmin Ali and discussed the development of cooperation between the two sides in the fields of trade and investment.
Furthermore, Shoukry attended a working dinner attended by the Ministers of Finance and Economy, senior leaders, and representatives of the Malaysian business community.
