Egypt and Jordon signed an executive programme agreement for tourism cooperation and twinning between Luxor and Petra cities on Tuesday.
The agreement was signed by Egypt`s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khaled El-Enany, and his Jordanian counterpart, Nayef Al-Fayez, in the presence of President of the Jordan Tourism Board, Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, and Jordon`s Ambassador to Egypt Amjad Al-Adayleh.
Mohamed Osman, Head of the Committee for the Promotion of Cultural Tourism in Luxor
Mohamed Osman, Head of the Committee for the Promotion of Cultural Tourism in Luxor, hailed this agreement, explaining that within the framework of activating the tourism cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in 1986, the two countries agreed to sign this programme for cooperation in the field of tourism for the years (2022-2024), which includes the areas of tourism promotion, marketing , and training, as well as sustainable development, and tourism legislation and regulations.
Meanwhile, Osman told Daily News Egypt that signing the executive programme for tourism cooperation between Egypt and Jordan and twinning between Luxor and Petra is considered a golden opportunity for both sides to exchange databases to attract more tourism.
Osman explained further that this is also a golden opportunity for conducting joint festivals between the two countries, exchanging experiences between Egyptian and Jordanian tourism, and working together on tourism promotion and marketing for the two cities at the same time.
The Head of the Committee for the Promotion of Cultural Tourism in Luxor also praised the choice of petra for the twinning explaining that Petra is a world heritage registered by UNESCO in 1985. It is also considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
He explained that both cities Luxor and Petra have common characteristics and a deep history and civilization. Luxor's history dates back to the era of the Fourth Dynasty around 2575 BC.
In October, Egypt`s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that the large projects that the state is currently implementing to revive a number of archaeological areas in Luxor would make this city an open museum that attracts the attention of tourists from all over the world.
In this context, Osman said this programme and the twinning between Luxor and Petra are considered the first fruit of announcing Luxor as an open museum.
