The Board of Trustees of the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) has held its first meeting, chaired by Adly Mansour. The board approved the appointment of Raafat Hindi as its Vice Chairperson, and Reem Bahgat as President of the university.
Mansour said the University aims to keep pace with the global trends in education, especially artificial intelligence. He praised the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for its support to EUI, which reflected the state's interest in this type of advanced education.
Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, welcomed the EUI Board of Trustees, saying that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's decision to establish EUI embodied the state's vision to support capacity-building of the Egyptian youth, which is the main pillar of development.
He pointed out that the establishment of the first university in Africa and the Middle East specialized in communications, information technology, and other related fields was a solid step towards building digital Egypt.
The university aims to provide a set of academic curricula that keep pace with the requirements of the modern labour market, and enable graduates to compete effectively in the local and international markets. It will also conclude partnership agreements with prestigious international academic institutions that have great experience in the telecommunications sector. Partnerships have been already agreed with the international universities of Purdue and Minnesota.
Moreover, EUI offers its students the opportunity to study their senior year at the university's headquarters in the United States.
EUI was launched earlier this month at the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital. It includes four faculties: the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Business Technology, and the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design.
The study is scheduled to start in the four faculties next October. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology plans to expand the scholarships for excellence offered to new students, which amount to 50%, in addition to full scholarships for high school graduates.
