Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 08 - 2021

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Tuesday issued a decree to establish Egypt University of Informatics at the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital.
Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said the decision reflects the vision of the political leadership and the state's efforts to create a new generation of informatics experts with a high degree of knowledge and skills to achieve a qualitative leap in Egypt's position in the international information arena.
According to the minister, the university provides specialized education at the highest level in the fields of communication sciences and information technology in accordance with the latest developments and academic methods, through partnerships with major international universities. The aim is to create distinguished young professionals capable of keeping pace with the global technological development, and be the driving force for technological innovation in Egypt.
The Minister of Communications continued: "The Egypt University of Informatics" (EUI) was established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education to be the first university in Africa and the Middle East specialized in communications and information technology and related fields, providing digital skills to meet the growing requirements of the growing local market, in particular, and the regional and global market in general."
Talaat pointed out that the Egypt Informatics University has been established in the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, which is established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in the framework of working to build an integrated information society and support the growth of the communications and information technology sector in the New Administrative Capital.
The city of knowledge provides a creative environment for university students through its units and projects affiliated with the ministry, specialized research centers, training institutes for communications and information technology, and incubation units to sponsor innovative projects, in addition to the technology oasis that hosts international and local companies and banks. This contributes to providing Student training opportunities, graduate job opportunities, and research partnerships that solve real-world problems.
The Egypt Informatics University includes four faculties: the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Business Technology, and the Faculty of Digital Arts and Design. The academic programs of the university were designed by a group of Egyptian academic experts in cooperation with their counterparts from international universities in several areas, including: Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data engineering, the fourth industrial revolution, the electronics industry, communications sciences, financial technology, data analysis, e-marketing, animation arts, user experience, electronic game design, and product art design in the field of digital arts. It took into account in its programs the comparison of programs in major international universities and taking into account the Egyptian quality and accreditation conditions.
The study is scheduled to start in the four faculties this year in October 2021, in the first building of the university, which can accommodate more than 1,600 students, until the completion of the rest of the university campus during the next three years. This aims to motivate students to register in the first batch. Also, it has been announced that tuition fees will be reduced, as well as grants associated with students' superiority in their studies.
The EUI has signed an agreement with Purdue University, West Lafayette (PWL) with the international ranking advanced to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications and Computer Engineering, allowing the student to spend the first academic years in Egypt and then choose to study the last year at the International University agreed with. In addition, there is an agreement for a professional master's degree in the field of information security.
An agreement was also made with the American University of Minnesota, which has an advanced international classification in the field of computer science. Negotiations are underway with other international universities in other fields of study offered by the university. This is within the framework of the university's strategic goal of "a distinguished education on an international level in Egypt" by ensuring the quality of teaching and learning and harmonizing the curricula of the study programs offered by EUI with the curricula and programs of foreign partner universities.
