Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has revealed that there was a 12.25% increase in the country's manufacturing and extractive index in March 2021.
The figure was released as part of the primary data for the country's manufacturing and extractive production industries index (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) for March 2021.
The index reached 116.84 during March 2021 (primary), compared to 104.09 during February 2021 (final), reflecting the 12.25% increase.
Economic activities that witnessed an increase included several segments. The manufacture of beverages reached 235.80 during March 2021, compared to February 2021, where it reached 199.75. This reflected an increase by 18.04%, due to increasing demand for beverages with the advent of the summer season.
The manufacture of chemicals and chemical products increase by 20.03% to reach 116.85 during March 2021, compared to February 2021, when it reached 97.35. The increase was to meet the market needs due to the repercussions of the corona pandemic.
Meanwhile, a decrease was seen in the level of economic activities among computer, electronic, and optical products, which reached 105.90 during March 2021. This compared to February 2021, when it reached 133.66, reflecting a decrease of 20.77%, due to the market conditions and availability in inventory.
The agency used the updated index methodology from the base year 2012/2013 at the level of industrial activity indices, according to the Industrial Activity Index (ISIC Rev.4), and by using the monthly producer price index on the basis of 2012/13.
