Egypt's engineering exports surge 173% to $226.3m in April 2021

Egypt's engineering exports surged by 173% in April 2021 to reach $226.3m, compared to $82.8m in the same month last year, according to a statement by the Engineering Exports Council of Egypt (EEC).
The country's engineering exports rose by 49% in the first four months (4M) of fiscal year (FY) 2020/21 reaching $967.7m. This compared to the $650.2m recorded during the same period of FY 2019/2020.
Moreover, exports of engineering products witnessed an increase of 22.2% in 10M of FY 2020/21, reaching $2.308bn, compared to $1.888bn in the same period of FY 2019/20.
Those engineering sectors that took the lion's share of exports are: tableware and kitchenware with 51%; transportation vehicles with 43%; household appliances with 42.6%; cables with 41%; automotive components with 35%; and electrical and electronic industries with 21%.
Meanwhile, the most important European countries receiving Egyptian engineering exports are: the UK; Turkey; France; Germany; Spain; Greece; Slovenia; Italy; and the Czech Republic.
In Asia, these countries were Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Lebanon, Amman, and Yemen, whilst in Africa, the most important recipients of such exports were Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Kenya, Tunisia, Togo, Nigeria, and Ghana.
On another note, Ismail Gaber, Chairman of the General Organization for Import and Export Control (GOEIC), said that Egypt's engineering industries have been the third top sector in terms of growth during the first four months of the year.
