South Korea's Ambassador in Egypt, Hong Jin-wook, has invited Egypt to participate in the 2021 K-City Global Partnership Programme.
The programme is powered by South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. It comes in line with the Egyptian government's endeavours towards digital transformation and expansion of new smart cities.
The programme is a platform for Government to Government (G2G) cooperation aimed at providing technical assistance in smart city projects and knowledge sharing.
The Korean Ministry will select projects to be implemented through the programme in the following areas: Smart city planning; Solution planning; and Solution demonstration.
Ambassador Hong noted that his country's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will organise a briefing session on 22 March for interested parties from partner countries including Egypt. The briefing session will be streamed on the YouTube channel.
The Ambassador expects the programme to be a good opportunity for expanding the Korea-Egypt partnership. He invited Egyptian ministries and authorities working in smart cities development to take part in the programme and submit candidate projects. The window for such submissions is open until 20 April 2021.
Ambassador Hong pointed to the ongoing Korea-Egypt collaboration in the field of digital transformation and digital government (e-government).
Among these is the project to introduce Korea's e-procurement system with Egypt's Ministry of Finance, as well as the automation of the intellectual property system at the Egyptian Patent Office.
The Ambassador affirmed the readiness of the Korean Government and companies to share its expertise and know-how in the support of building "Digital Egypt".
