Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir discussed with South Korean Ambassador in Cairo Hong Jin-wook, along with a delegation from South Korean company Hyundai Rotem means of boosting cooperation between both sides in the underground projects.
Wazir praised current cooperation between the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) and the South Korean company, mainly as regards manufacturing and delivering 32 new air-conditioned trains to Egypt, as well as signing an eight-year contract for maintenance of trains to help operate the third and fourth stages of Cairo Metro's third line.
The minster also highlighted a contract that has been signed between both sides for manufacturing and delivering six new trains to be used on the second line of Cairo Metro as part of the Transport Ministry's plan for upgrading the first and second lines of Cairo Metro.
Officials at Hyundai Rotem voiced their keenness to cooperate with the Egyptian National Company for Railway Industries, which will operate the mobile units factory in Eastern Port Said, in transferring the industry of mobile units, mainly metro cars, in Egypt.
