The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has announced that it will continue to support Egypt's educational reforms, to advance women's empowerment and gender equality in all fields.
The agency's emphasis of support came in a press statement on the occasion of the International Women's Day, celebrated on 8 March.
It said that the global celebration is a chance to reflect on the social, economic, and political achievements of women and their contributions around the world. This year's theme is"Choose to Challenge".
JICA said that education is fundamental for women's empowerment, enabling them to gain the skills needed to challenge, make a change, and lead better lives.
In Egypt, JICA has been supporting the enhancement of Egypt's education system as a priority for economic growth, social justice, and bridging gender gap.
A Japanese whole child education system, known as "Tokkatsu", is being promoted in Egypt-Japan Schools (EJS) to nurture the students, regardless of gender. They aim to provide them with a balanced development of social, emotional, and academic skills with cultivation of interpersonal skills.
"It is definitely a source of pride that EJS represents a living model of women and girls' empowerment in Egypt and the whole region, as the project is led by the Advisor to the Minister for Strategic Relations, Nevine Hamouda," JICA said, adding, "Hamouda represents one of the most prominent female leaders inside the Ministry of Education."
The agency also noted that the majority of teachers and principals are females, and also the percentage of female students is high even in rural areas.
