Egypt's number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases remains high, and there are many patients in critical condition, according to Dr Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention.
Tag El-Din noted, however, that the situation in Egypt remains under control.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health reported a total of 1,057 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 77,279. The ministry also reported 67 new fatalities, bringing Egypt's total number of deaths from the disease to 3,489. A total of 21,718 cases have recovered and were discharged from hospitals after receiving the required medical care.

"We can contain simple and medium cases, and there are places to hospitalise virus patients," he said, adding, "Medicines and protective equipment available."
In televised statements on Monday evening, Tag El-Din said that Egypt will have reached its peak of infections if the daily infection rate decreases over a period of one week to ten days.
The advisor noted that the social acceptance of home isolation and care techniques for coronavirus patients have proven successful. He added that many cases of the virus were contained, as the majority of Egypt's coronavirus cases were either asymptomatic or patients with non-acute symptoms.
Tag El-Din stressed the importance of committing to the precautionary and protective measures to curb the spread of the infection. He further noted that the National Research Centre (NRC) is conducting clinical trials on some suggested vaccines for the virus.
Meanwhile, Osman Shaalan, Dean of Zagazig University, announced that a new hospital affiliated to the University for isolating and treating paediatric coronavirus cases will be inaugurated next Sunday.
Shaalan explained in televised statements that the hospital contains 47 intensive care beds and 200 other beds as a first stage, with 70 additional intensive care beds to be added in the second phase.
