Health, Higher Education Ministers brief Madbouly on Covid-19 containment

The Ministries of Health and Higher Education updated Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Friday morning, with the latest steps they are taking to combat the coronavirus in Egypt. They also outlined the continuing measures they are taking to contain the virus' spread and production of the needed vaccines and drugs.
During the meeting, Health Minister Hala Zayed briefed Madbouly on the situation on the ground and her ministry's performance in line with World Health Organization (WHO) instructions. She noted that most cases have recovered without the need for medical treatment, with the ministry only conducting tests on those with symptoms.
Zayed added that the ministry has prepared 12 hospitals for isolating infected cases. These hospitals contain a total of2,241 beds, 407 intensive care beds, and 346 ventilators. Zayed also said that 47 fever hospitals and 35 chest diseases hospitals across the country are also part of the frontline in combating the coronavirus.
Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, also present at the meeting, outlined the number of beds available at university hospitals selected for isolating infections. Abdel Ghaffar said that there are 2,056 beds, 297 intensive care beds, and 266 ventilators at university hospitals selected for isolating infections.
Abdel Ghaffar added that dormitories have also been set aside for taking in isolating coronavirus patients. These include 38,589 rooms with 69,070 beds, with selected dormitories for the first phase in Cairo, Alexandria, Ain Shams, Mansoura, Assiut, Minya, and Helwan universities.
