Egypt, Uzbekistan study establishing pharmaceutical plant

Sahl El-Damarawy, a member of the Egyptian Businessmen Association (EBA), Wednesday met with the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan, Alisher Shadmanov, in Tashkent to discuss boosting cooperation with Egyptian businesspeople working in the pharmaceutical industry and medical supplies.
El-Damarawy said that Egyptian-Uzbek businesspeople has agreed to benefit from the Egyptian pharmaceutical expertise to manufacture various drugs that Uzbekistan currently import.
Additionally, Egyptian products would have preferential treatment their entry into the Uzbek medicine market would be facilitated.
Furthermore, he revealed that a proposal to establish a plant to manufacture of human and veterinary medications, cosmetics, food supplements, and medical supplies in the free zone in Uzbekistan, which are to be exported to Central Asian countries, after meeting the Uzbek market needs.
He elaborated that the Uzbek minister welcomed all ways of cooperating with the Egyptian side and benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in pharmaceutical industry, citing that Egypt produces 92% of its medical drugs needs.
Additionally, he pointed out that during the meeting the two parties discussed how to benefit from the Egyptian experience to eliminate Hepatitis C virus.
Uzbekistan manufactures only 28% of its local needs, and it hopes to increase it within the next three years, through Egyptian assistance, according to Eldamarawy.
