The Confederation of African Football's (CAF) disciplinary jury, at its meeting held Saturday 29 September in Sharm el-Sheikh, took a decision to ban President of Zamalek Mortada Mansour for one year and fined him $40,000 for insulting the CAF's president. The conviction issued under Article 41.1 of the CAF disciplinary Code, will prevent Mansour from performing any kind of football related activities (administrative, sports, or any other) for one year. Mansour has the right to appeal the CAF's decision within three working days of the notification of the decision, unless it shall be final. Earlier, the CAF disciplinary jury held a meeting on Wednesday 29 September in Sharm el-Sheikh, where it sanctioned Al Ahly SC to play its next two of the CAF Champions League matches behind closed doors and without spectators, and fined the club $20,000. The conviction came as a result to the club's spectators' unsporting and offensive behaviour during a game played on 22 September at the Borg El Arab Stadium against Horoya AC as part of the CAF CL. The CAF's decision concerning Al Ahly's spectators shall be suspended until the end of 2018 season unless Al Ahly was found guilty of a similar offence during this period. Fans of Cairo-based Al Ahly chanted insults directed towards Saudi Sports Authority head Turki Al-Sheikh, who is one of the most powerful figures in Middle Eastern sport. Al Sheikh was appointed as an honorary president of Al Ahly in December 2017, before he left his position five months later, due to financial disputes with the club's management.
