Samsung leads global smartphone sales, Chinese manufacturers fuel competition

Samsung continued to lead the world smartphone market in February, supported by a slight growth in its market share, while Chinese smartphone manufacturers engaged in a fierce competition over the following ranks.
According to statistics from web analytics company StatCounter, Samsung's global market share grew by 0.1%.
According to those statistics, Samsung had a market share of 31.9% of global smartphone sales in February compared to 31.8% in January.
Apple came second in terms of smartphone market share, accounting for 20.1% in February, up from 19.6% in January.
Huawei was ranked third globally in terms of smartphone sales, far behind its nearest rival Apple, with a global market share of 5.5% in February versus 5.3% in January.
The report also showed the growth of Xiaomi's global market share in February, ranking fourth, slightly behind Huawei.
Xiaomi's market share increased to 5.1% in February from 4.8% in January.
China's Oppo ranked the fifth spot in terms of world smartphone market share, recording 3.6% in February, up from 3.4% in January 2018.
Meanwhile, LG maintained its market share in February at 3.4% of global smartphone sales.
Lenovo's market share fell from 2.8% in January to 2.7% in February, but it still assumed the seventh position for the second month in a row in the global smartphone market.
Motorola, affiliated with Lenovo, had a market share of 2.5% in February, down from 2.6% in January 2018.
Nokia ranked last among the world's top smartphone manufacturers, with its market share reaching 1.7% in February, down from 2% in January.
