Zewail City of Science and Technology announced on Thursday the inauguration of the Technology Innovation and Commercialisation Office "TICO", to increase the benefit from applied research and patents, linking them with industry and society, according to the statement of the city.
TICO is considered the first step for establishing the technology pyramid which aims for linking scientific research to the market. The main object of the office is to activate and support the role of universities, scientific research centres, and companies in addition to development activities in the public and private sectors.
The office consists of several sub-divisions such as GICO for following researches, scholarships and international relations, TISC for supporting innovation and patents which helps researchers in writing patent applications, and the division of commercialising technology – TTO which helps researchers in marketing their ideas.
Mahmoud Sakr, the president of Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, said that scientific research leads to development, and the inauguration of the technology pyramid will help in achieving what we are looking for and activate the applied phase of scientific research in Egypt.
Sherif Sedky, acting president of Zewail City, said that the vision of professor Ahmed Zewail in establishing the city was to cope with all updates in scientific research all over the world. He added that the city has succeeded in registering a number of patents and scientific papers in regional and international journals.
