Mobile consumer base declines, internet subscribers grow by 2 million
Mobile internet users reach 34 million

The number of mobile subscribers decreased during September 2017 by 0.28% compared to August.
According to a Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) report, the number of mobile subscribers fell from 99.5 million in August to 99.4 million in September while the penetration of mobile service registered 110%.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that the internet market grew by 2 million new clients, most of whom are mobile internet users.
According to the report, the total number of users of internet services increased from 39.98 million in August to 41.98 million in September.
The largest growth came from the mobile internet sector, where the number of users increased from 31.78 million in August to 33.76 million in September—rising by 3.10%. Mobile internet penetration compared to total internet users in Egypt reached 41%.
USB modem internet clients fell slightly in September, dropping from 3.28 million in August to 3.27 million in September, marking a decline of 0.23%.
On the other hand, ADSL internet users grew by 0.57%, increasing from 4.92 million in August to 4.95 million in September.
The Greater Cairo area had the largest proportion ADSL users, accounting for 41% of total users. The Delta region accounted for 31% of ADSL users, Upper Egypt for 12%, Alexandria and Marsa Matruh for 10%, and the Suez Canal region and Red Sea for 6%.
The MCIT also noted that the landlines user base increased in September to reach 6.54 million, up from 6.27 million in August.
