The National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) has posed a limited tender to choose a consultancy office for the Metro Line 2 extension to Qalyoub city.
The NAT set 15 February 2018 to open the bidding offices' envelopes. The authority invited five consultancy offices to participate in the tender, including Setec, Egiserail, Artelia, Dar Al-Handasah, Khatib, and Alamy.
The winning consultant shall be required to conduct a number of studies and reports. They include an inception report, data collection report, and a transportation study of the Metro Line 2 extension to Qalyoub.
The consultant shall define the integrated public transport network foreseen to be generated by the implementation of line 2's extension to Qalyoub. It shall also carry out a complete study for the expected needed adaptation to the line's elements and premises.
Moreover, it will conduct a feasibility study of the extension of Greater Cairo Metro line 2 to Qalyoub city, including the required land acquisition, as well as the necessary public utilities diversion and the additional infrastructure to serve the proposed line.
The NAT has decided to award the tender contract for 64 trains in phase three and four of Line 3 of the Greater Cairo Metro to the French Alstom company and Hyundai Rotem, respectively.
The authority plans to implement six new metro lines by 2032 to link Greater Cairo with all its suburbs. The implementation of phase one of Metro Line 4, known as Al-Haram Metro, started in January 2017.
The two main metro lines and the third line, which includes eight stations so far, are used by about four million passengers daily.
