Abd El Wahab Sons – Fresh Fruits & Vegetables aims to boost its exports to reach 45,000 tonnes this year, up from 25,000 tonnes last year—an increase of 80%
The chairperson of the company, Khalid Abdelwahab, said that the company will sign more deals with farmers to stimulate exports, next to cultivating 1,000 feddans owned by the company.
The company exports products such as lemons, oranges, onions, melons, grapes, pomegranates, green beans, and colored peppers to over 10 markets.
Abdelwahab noted that Egyptian citrus fruits, especially oranges, have good market shares in Russia, Ukraine, and Iran, as well as east Asian countries, hence the company aims to boost its exports to these markets.
He pointed out that orange exports achieved a breakthrough in some markets, where exports to Oman registered a 208% increase to reach 69,903 tonnes last year, up from 22,670 the year before. In Spain, too, Egyptian orange exports increased by 1226% to reach 15,096 tonnes, up from 1,138 tonnes. Similar increases happened in France and Bulgaria.
Moreover, Abdelwahab said that participation in international exhibitions is the best way to learn about global trends and paint a mental image of his products in particular and Egyptian exports in general, urging the state to support the initiative.
