Al-Sadat resigns as head of parliament's Human Rights Committee
The parliamentary speaker hinders committee activities, says Al-Sadat in resignation letter

Member of parliament Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat resigned from his post as the head of the parliament's Human Rights Committee on Tuesday, according to a press statement.
In his resignation letter, Al-Sadat said that the parliament's first term will end in October, and the committee had filed several requests and demands to parliamentary speaker Ali Abdul Aal during the current term with no response whatsoever to these requests.
He also noted the lack of parliamentary assistance in allowing the committee to represent Egypt in international conferences. Earlier this month, Al-Sadat was referred to the Disciplinary Committee, along with 11 MPs from the Human Rights Committee, for travelling to Geneva to attend an international rights conference.
Al-Sadat previously told the privately-owned Al-Shorouk newspaper that the discord with Abdul Aal is not personal, but is rather for a disagreement over the public's best interests. Nevertheless, he was expected to be ousted from his position as the head of the parliamentary committee in the second term due to the continuous clashes with Abdul Aal.
The MP has caused several commotions during parliamentary debates. Abdul Aal has stopped him from expressing his stances and opinions several times, including the time Al-Sadat demanded the disclosure of the wages of military personnel.
Al-Sadat previously threatened that the committee will freeze its activities due to the negligence of the parliamentary speaker to their demands. Abdul Aal said that he will allow the members of the committee to nominate themselves for Al-Sadat's position, in the case that he freezes activities.
