Workers in the manufacturing industry are more likely to get injured during work compared to workers in other fields, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). CAPMAS explained in its annual bulletin of work injury statistics in governmental sector enterprises, public / public business sectors, and the private sector that the total number of work injuries in 2015 amounted to 15,911 cases, compared to 16,902 cases in 2014, marking a decline 5.9%. The decline was attributed to the rising awareness of working conditions and the application of occupational safety and health standards. According to the CAPMAS bulletin, the number of work injury cases in the governmental sector amounted to 2,680 cases, 16.8% of the total number of cases. The public / public business sectors saw 10,224 cases, 64.3% of the total number. In the private sector the number of cases reached 3,007 in companies with 50 or more employees, making up 18.9% of the total number of cases. The bulletin added that 88.4% of the total number of work injuries occurred among male workers, while the number of cases among female workers amounted to 1,852, or 11.6%. "The Cairo governorate recorded the largest number of work injury cases witnessing 5,650, which account for 35.5% of the total number of cases, followed by Alexandria with 3,526 cases (22.2%). Beni Suef recorded only two cases (0.01%), the lowest number of work injury cases among governorates," said CAPMAS. Factory workers, machine operators, and production workers registered the highest number of work injuries with 4,793 cases (29.8%), followed by technicians and associate professionals with 4,483 cases (28.2%). The lowest number of cases was found among agricultural and fishing industry workers, recording 39 cases, equivalent to 0.3% of the total number of cases. "The manufacturing industry recorded the largest number of work injury cases, reaching 9,491 cases (59.6%), followed by workers in the transport and storage industry, with 2,722 cases (17.1%). The lowest number of work injury cases took place in the real estate and renting industry, reaching 11 cases, and making up 0.1% of the total number of cases," according of CAPMAS. The CAPMAS bulletin added that the number of work injury cases that occurred in workplaces amounted to 13,278 (83.5%), while the remaining 2,633 cases occurred while workers were on their way either to or from their workplace (16.5%).
