The non-governmental organisation Partners for Transparency (PFORT) counted 83 reported corruption cases in state institutions during June, mainly in ministries, according to a PFORT report. The number declined from 101 cases of corruption in May, which included a case of a consultant of the Minister of Health, who was caught receiving a bribe of EGP 4.5m. The Ministry of Supply topped the list in terms of number of corruption cases in May and in June. It recorded 15 cases in June. It was followed by the ministries of agriculture with ten cases, local development with nine cases, and interior with seven cases. These ministries have been ranked among the most corrupt in PFORT's monthly reports. The ministries of investment, transportation, education, communications and information technology, health, higher education, and justice recorded between three to six cases each. In total, there were 17 ministries which witnessed cases of corruption. According to the cases featured in PFORT's report, corruption is mostly revealed through the arrest of officials and employees of different state-funded institutions, or their referral to investigation. The report further mentions different statements by officials in the executive and legislative bureaus about the efforts made to fight corruption, while admitting that the phenomenon is still widespread. The government launched a TV media campaign in the holy month of Ramadan, encouraging viewers to fight different forms of corruption. Former head of the Central Auditing Organisation Hisham Geneina is currently facing trial after being dismissed from his position for spreading false information about corruption in Egypt and misleading the public.
