A military burial ceremony was held Tuesday morning for Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat, who was assassinated on Monday in a bomb explosion that targeted his motorcade in Cairo. Barakat's body was transported from the Nozha Hospital, where he passed away, to Hussein Tantawy Mosque in the Fifth Settlement where the ceremony took place. The ceremony was attended by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb, Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb, former interim president Adly Mansour, Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, amongst other top state and military officials. Al-Sisi paid his condolences to Barakat's family, assuring them his killing will be avenged, as it will be the retribution of a nation. "Effective justice is restricted by laws, we will amend laws to achieve justice as soon as possible," Al-Sisi stated during the ceremony. Al-Sisi addressed the Judiciary, saying that following Barakat's death, condolences will be paid by advancing the state, controlling terrorism, and creating rulings of effective justice as fast as possible. He also said that "we are facing a huge war and a despicable enemy". Commenting on justice and judicial rulings, Al-Sisi stated that "Egypt didn't take any exceptional procedures yet". He also said that all rulings, including death and life imprisonment sentences will be carried out, hinting at court sentences against Muslim Brotherhood leaders and members. The president saluted the state's institutions saying: "Army, police and Judiciary pay the price by sacrificing for Egypt." A ceremonial reception will be held Tuesday evening in Hussein Tantawy mosque.
