MP Mostafa Bakry files 40 complaints against activists
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 03 - 2012

CAIRO: Independent MP Mostafa Bakry filed 40 complaints at the prosecutor general against activists for insults and death threats he received via social networking websites.
Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud referred the case to the central Cairo prosecution office for investigation, according to a source inside the prosecutor's office.
Although the activists' names have not been disclosed, Bakry allegedly presented evidence proving their threats and insults and claimed they were supporters of Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei.
Last week at the People's Assembly (PA), Bakry said that ElBaradei incites agents, citing his media appearances following the Jan. 25 revolt.
Bakry had accused ElBaradei of being a “foreign agent” while speaking at the People's Assembly, after which 32 MPs had filed a request demanding that he receive the same treatment as MP Ziad El-Eleimy, who was referred to a disciplinary committee for using offensive language to refer to the head of SCAF Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi.
However, the People's Assembly voted against referring Bakry to a special committee.
Political analyst Nabil Abdel Fattah said that Bakry is known for frequently filing complaints to the prosecutor's office and that this is nothing new.
“His motives may be driven by last week's events at the People's Assembly as he was close to being referred to a special committee due to the statements he made against ElBaradei,” he said.
The Revolution Youth Coalition refused to comment on the issue, saying that they are against all the ongoing smear campaigns in the media and by other figures towards the youth who continue to call for the demands of the revolution to be met.
