Mostafa al-Naggar, a member of parliament from the Adl Party, has gathered the signatures of 30 People's Assembly members to request that independent MP Mostafa Bakry be referred to a parliamentary investigation for insulting former International Atomic Energy Agency Director Mohamed ElBaradei. In a parliamentary session earlier this month, Bakry accused ElBaradei of being a traitor and agent working for the United States. He was not disciplined at the time. On Sunday, however, People's Assembly Speaker Saad al-Katatny asked Ziad al-Elaimy, an MP from the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, to apologize for saying in the chamber Friday that Supreme Council of the Armed Forces head Hussein Tantawi was responsible for killing Egyptians. Elaimy refused to apologize, saying that he had not insulted Tantawi but was instead holding him responsible for “crimes he committed against Egyptians.” He was then referred to a parliamentary investigation committee.
