CAIRO: Public Transportation Authority (PTA) workers temporarily suspended their strike Tuesday, as some of the workers continued negotiating with the PTA over their demands. About 25 of the lines in Greater Cairo and its suburbs went back to work according to drivers. In a meeting Tuesday with the head of the PTA Mona Mostafa, aiming to convince drivers to go back to work, Gebali Mohamed Gebali, president of the General Union of Road Transport Workers, said that a committee is looking into possibility of offering two percent of the annual revenues of the PTA as special incentives to workers as well as other demands like the provision of insurance. Tarek Mohamed, head of the representatives of 55 garages who met with Mostafa, told Daily News Egypt that the drivers decided to partially suspend their two-week strike as the authority gave them guarantees that they will take their demands seriously. Minister of Manpower Hassan El-Borai had previously said that he will not negotiate unless the strike ends. “We will only end the strike when we meet the Minister of Manpower on Oct.10,” said Mohamed.
