Public Transport Authority (PTA) drivers partially ended their strike Tuesday after a meeting with Mona Mostafa, PTA head, while others refused the compromise reached among Mostafa and some of the striking drivers. State-run newspaper Al-Ahram quoted Ismail Mohamed, member of the independent syndicate for PTA workers, as saying that several drivers are still striking at the authority garages until their demands are met. State-run news agency MENA reported that bus movement returned to normal on Tuesday at all the garages around Cairo and its suburbs. Mohamed al-Gebaly, head of the general syndicate for road transport workers, said the head of the PTA held meeting on Tuesday with around 100 striking drivers to convince them to end their strike. Gebaly added that the authority has begun to take steps to enhance the social and health insurance systems for all the workers. According to MENA, Gebaly said some workers reject the new decisions, as they don't make incentives equal among workers. The strike entered its 14th straight day on Wednesday.
