CAIRO: The Egyptian National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Science said that the missing satellite Egypt Sat-1 is still in orbit and is being visually observed from different sites, according to its press statement on Sunday. The Egyptian satellite Egypt Sat-1 went missing on July 19, 2010 when all communication with it was lost. There have been ongoing efforts to reconnect with it from different control units in Egypt, Ukraine and other parts of the world. The Ukrainian-made satellite was launched in April 2007 and should have a durability that will offer three years of great quality and two years offering lower quality. It was reportedly lost three times in three years, but was recovered in each case, according to news reports. On the other hand, state-run daily Al-Gomhuria quoted an unidentified astronomer who stated that the chances of restoring communication with the missing satellite, after so much time has already passed, are slim.
