CAIRO: Portuguese coach Nelo Vingada has become one of the candidates to take over at Zamalek next season, a club official said on Monday. Vingada has agreed in principle to coach Zamalek, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FilGoal.com. He will arrive in Cairo within 48 hours to engage in formal talks with the Zamalek board. Zamalek have yet to settle on their new boss following the resignation of Dutchman Ruud Krol, who helped the team win the Egyptian Cup after a three-year title drought. The Cairo giants were targeting former AC Milan coach Alberto Zaccheroni. However, the Italian s salary demands apparently proved a stumbling block to the deal s completion. Brazilian tactician Ricardo Ferreira, who manages Sudan s Hilal, was also a candidate but Zamalek s hesitation in wrapping up talks led to the deal being cancelled. He gave a preliminary agreement but the negotiations took too long as Zamalek bosses are still waiting for Alberto Zaccheroni s final decision, the Ferreira's agent Ahmed Abbas said. Vingada could have another stint with five-time African champions Zamalek. Zamalek s last Egyptian League triumph came under the 55-year-old manager in the 2003/2004 season. Despite leading Zamalek to league glory, the men in white opted against renewing his contract. Vingada took charge of Egypt s Olympic team in the summer of 2006 but failed to help the team qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games. He was appointed as Jordan national team manager one year later to replace Egyptian highly-successful coach Mahmoud Al-Gohari.
