Aluminum boost survival hopes
Published in Daily News Egypt on 17 - 04 - 2008

CAIRO: Aluminum, ENPPI and Masri won their League games this week, securing their place in next year's round. Aluminum moved a step closer to securing top-flight safety after claiming a 2-0 home victory over Ittihad in the Egyptian League on Wednesday.
Ittihad dominated the first-half but couldn t convert their chances. Aluminum took advantage of the visitors wastefulness to secure all three points.
Midfielder Mostafa Abbas and Ibrahim Abdul-Raheem scored the winning goals. After this game, Aluminum has no relegation worries as they moved to the 10th spot with 26 points, six clear of the relegation zone.
Ittihad is in a critical position as they lie in 12th place on 22 points. On the same day, ENPPI crushed Baladeya 3-0 at home, compounding the misery of the Mahalla-based club.
Ayman Saied, Ahmed Al-Mohammadi, and Ivorian striker Vincent Die Foneye scored the winning goals. Foneye has a record of seven goals this season. The result left Baladeya third from bottom in the league table with 20 points, two adrift of the safety zone.
Baladeya could also fall to the bottom when Telecom Egypt and Suez, who also have 20 points, face each other on Thursday.
ENPPI, who will meet Zamalek in the Egyptian Cup final on May, moved to seventh spot on 32 points. At the same time, Masri maintained their unbeaten run under coach Hossam Hassan after claiming a narrow 1-0 home victory over Tersana.
Nigerian striker Efosa Eguakun scored the winner a few moments before half-time to hand his team a precious win.
Masri are yet to taste defeat since veteran striker Hassan, who is yet to announce his retirement from professional football, took over in late February.
The victory put the Port Said-based club in ninth place in the league table with 28 points, eight clear of the relegation zone.
Masri are likely to retain their top-flight status after their recent revival, which saw them win three matches and draw three since the appointment of Hassan.
Tersana lie 13th with 22 points, just two ahead of the relegation zone.
Masri s decision to lower the prices of tickets was fruitful as the fans flooded the stadium to support their team.
