Published in Daily News Egypt on 19 - 06 - 2007

CAIRO: The National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) in Egypt signed an agreement with their counterparts in Kuwait, the Institute of Kuwait for Scientific Research, Tuesday to initiate joint projects in scientific fields.
The agreement will lead to funding of scientific and technical projects in the fields of space, remote sensing and satellite technology. It will also manage the exchange of a number of scientists to work on certain projects between the two countries, said Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Hany Helal.
Ayman El Dessoky, head of NARSS, said that the agreement will pave the way for a variety of projects including environmental observations, geographical indications of climate changes and health-related issues such as avian flu.
Nader El Awady, general manager of the Institute of Kuwait for Scientific Research said that scientific research made possible through the agreement will benefit all areas related to better education on both sides.
The agreement is not just a cooperation between the two sides, it is a beginning and it provides a framework for future projects, said El Dessoky, we are looking forward to the deepening of this agreement.
Finally Helal said that they are currently in the process of testing the different areas of Egypt s satellite and have already taken preliminary pictures of Cairo. He added that the pictures are of good quality and are promising but that they will not begin full operation of the satellite until they have completed testing it.
